I think it is interesting, and I think about it once in a while. Have you ever noticed that April Fools Day and Easter are usually in the same month? I suspect that it is just a coincidence, and most people would never think about it, however – pastors can be a little different in these areas.
In the realm of Christianity, the two go together very well – in that you fit into one or the other category. Because of our great faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and what He has accomplished for us, Easter is the greatest day of the year; right next to Christmas. Those who have no time for Jesus Christ in their lives, April Fools Day should be the day they celebrate the most. Although I suspect they wouldn’t have a clue as to why they should celebrate April Fools Day.
However, for those of us who understand Easter and all of the significance it holds, we savor the thought and knowledge that Easter is all about what Christ has done for us. I can’t imagine the thought of spending eternity in a place where God never is. Praise be to God - - - we never will. Through our faith, we know that we will be with Him, in His glorious kingdom, in heaven. The relationship that the Holy Spirit has developed in us through our faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, assures us of a place that is being prepared by Jesus Christ Himself. Check out: John 14:2-3.
During the rest of this Lenten Season, spend time meditating on those things that need to be brought before our Savior for forgiveness. The Confirmation Class is finishing up their study on the Ten Commandments. Have you ever stopped to consider all the things that are listed in the meanings to the commandments? . . . cursing, swearing, lying, deceiving, not worshiping, not honoring those in authority over us, taking a life, destroying a reputation, betraying, slandering, gossiping, coveting. Pick your poison. There is something for everyone. Any one of them is enough to keep us out of heaven.
Knowing we are guilty is the first step to stopping the sin and bringing it before the Lord. We know there is no way we can accomplish it by ourselves. But praise be to God, He sends His Holy Spirit to guide our hearts and minds in the direction He wants us to pursue. Every time we are tempted to Think, Say or Do anything that is contrary to the Word of God, the Holy Spirit wishes to step in and stop us, and reverse our thought and actions.
We need to make an effort in preparing ourselves for Easter. This Lenten Season is a perfect time to do so. Bring our Lord and Savior closely into our lives, and ask Him to make a difference. Thank Him often and profusely for what He is willing to do, that we might have Everlasting Life in His Name.
See you in Church.
